In music, meter refers to the organization of beats into regular patterns. It is the underlying pulse of a piece of music, and it is indicated by the time signature at the beginning of a musical score. The meter determines the division of beats into strong (accented) and weak (unaccented) notes. For example, in a 4/4 time signature, there are four beats in a measure, and the first beat is typically accented, while the second, third, and fourth beats are unaccented. This organization of accented and unaccented notes creates a sense of rhythm and helps to establish the overall feel and groove of the music. **
