Epicurus was an ancient Greek philosopher who founded the school of philosophy known as Epicureanism. He believed that the ultimate goal in life was to achieve happiness and tranquility by seeking pleasure and avoiding pain. Epicurus emphasized the importance of living a simple and modest life, free from unnecessary desires and fears. His teachings focused on the pursuit of pleasure through intellectual and virtuous means, rather than through material possessions or indulgence. **

Epicurus' garden was a philosophical school and community located in Athens, Greece. It was a place where Epicurus and his followers gathered to discuss and contemplate his teachings on how to achieve a happy and tranquil life through the pursuit of pleasure and the avoidance of pain. The garden was not just a physical space, but also a symbol of the simple and peaceful lifestyle advocated by Epicurus. Hedonism, according to Epicurus, is the belief that pleasure is the highest good and the ultimate goal of life. However, Epicurus distinguished between different types of pleasure, advocating for the pursuit of long-term, intellectual pleasures over short-term, physical ones. He believed that true happiness comes from living a simple life, free from fear and pain, and surrounded by friends who share similar values. Ultimately, Epicurus believed that by seeking moderation and tranquility, individuals could achieve a state of ataraxia, or freedom from disturbance. **

Epicurus was a Greek philosopher who believed that the ultimate goal in life is to achieve happiness and tranquility through the pursuit of pleasure and the avoidance of pain. I appreciate his emphasis on living a simple and modest life, free from unnecessary desires and fears. However, I also recognize that his hedonistic views may not resonate with everyone, as some may find more fulfillment in pursuits beyond pleasure-seeking. Overall, I believe Epicurus' teachings offer valuable insights on how to live a fulfilling and content life. **

Epicurus understands joy as the absence of pain and tranquility of the soul. He believed that true joy comes from living a simple life, free from unnecessary desires and fears. Joy, for Epicurus, is achieved through the pursuit of pleasure in moderation and the cultivation of friendships based on mutual trust and respect. Ultimately, joy is found in the state of ataraxia, or inner peace, that comes from living a virtuous and balanced life. **

Epicurus meant with the quote "Not what we have, but what we enjoy, constitutes our abundance" that true abundance and wealth come from appreciating and finding joy in what we already possess, rather than constantly seeking more material possessions. He believed that happiness and contentment can be found in simple pleasures and cultivating a sense of gratitude for what we have. Epicurus emphasized the importance of focusing on the quality of our experiences rather than the quantity of our possessions. **

Epicurus' view that pleasure is the highest good and that the absence of pain is the ultimate goal is still relevant today. Many people continue to seek happiness and fulfillment through the pursuit of pleasure and the avoidance of suffering. However, some may argue that in today's complex world, achieving true happiness and contentment may require a more nuanced approach that takes into account factors such as personal values, relationships, and societal responsibilities. Ultimately, whether Epicurus' view is still correct today depends on individual perspectives and beliefs. **
