The ceremony is conducted by five initiated Sikhs known as the Panj Pyare, who prepare Amrit, a sweetened water mixture, while reciting prayers from the Guru Granth Sahib. The initiate, known as an Amritdhari Sikh, drinks the Amrit and commits to following the teachings of Sikhism, including the Five Ks and the code of conduct outlined in the Sikh Rehat Maryada.
